JAI #148: A SPARKLY, BLINGY CHRISTMAS CARD IN BLUES

To close off the year of Just Add Ink challenges, we're asking you to join in with us and "Just Add Christmas" to your papercraft project.  Hopefully you're not all "Christmassed-out" already; this time of year gets so overwhelmingly busy, doesn't it?

The card I have to share with you today was inspired by my lovely friend Sue Madex.  Sue has shown some cards on her blog using a very cool, and very easy, technique -  reverse masking.  Now, I simply can't make one-layer cards, so I've tizzed mine up a bit - lots of bling and shimmer on this one!

I started off with a panel of Naturals White cardstock, and used the two torn edges of a piece of copy paper to mask off an area to be sponged and stamped on; Dotto (temporary adhesive) worked perfectly to keep the paper in place.  I sponged the area with Baja Breeze ink, then stamped three of the doilies from Delicate Doilies, using Marina Mist, Island Indigo and Midnight Muse ink.  After I'd left the ink to dry (for what I thought was long enough!), I overstamped  a few doilies in Whisper White craft ink, and sprinkled Iridescent Ice embossing powder over the top - thinking there'd be just a few sparkly doilies.  Well, here's proof of how great Stampin' Up!'s new inkpads are for embossing .... the embossing powder stuck to the sponged background as well, giving a lovely sparkly effect over the whole panel!  Take a look:

I ran some Multipurpose Liquid Glue along the top 'torn' edge, and adhered Silver Glass Glitter - sooo pretty.  A die-cut strip of silver glimmer paper, and a few rhinestones, added even more sparkle.

Here's the finished card:

Stamps: Delicate Doilies, More Merry Messages
Card: Baja Breeze, Naturals White, Island Indigo, silver glimmer paper
Ink: Baja Breeze, Marina Mist, Island Indigo and Midnight Muse stampin' pads, Versamark inkpad, Whisper White craft stampin' pad
Other: White embossing powder, Iridescent Ice embossing powder, Decorative Label punch, Adorning Accents edgelits die, Island Indigo ruffled ribbon, silver Glass Glitter, Basic Rhinestones, stampin' sponge, sponge dauber, multipurpose liquid glue, sticky strip, glue dots

For even more inspiration for handmade Christmas projects, check out the rest of the Design Team's samples.    We have loved having you play along with our challenges this year.

Merry Christmas to you, and all of those dear to you.  We look forward to sharing more projects with you when we return from our break, on 18th January 2013!

JAI #147 : JUST ADD BALLOONS

This week at Just Add Ink, Trish has come up with a very cool theme .... just add balloons, to your papercraft project.

I have made a card for a little boy.  I don't actually know any kidlets turning 3, but the number of balloons I added to my card determined that the card would be for a 3 year old!

Starting off, I chose the cute starry paper from Stampin' Up!'s Snow Festival Designer Series Paper pack.  My Color Coach suggested I team Gumball Green with Marina Mist and Midnight Muse - and what a cool colour combination it is!

Stamps: Button Buddies, Memorable Moments, Itty Bitty Banners, Owl Occasions
Card: Gumball Green, Whisper White, Midnight Muse
DSP: Snow Festival Designer Series Paper
Ink: Gumball Green, Marina Mist and Midnight Muse stampin' pads
Other: Labels Collection framelits dies, Bitty Banners framelits, Midnight Muse stitched satin ribbon, Square Lattice embosssing folder, 1" and 1 1/4" Circle punches, sponge dauber, glue dots, Post-It note (for masking), paper snips

JAI #146 : STAMPIN' UP!'S NATURAL COMPOSITION DSP - COLOURED

I've scheduled this post to publish while I am out of the country for a few days - hopefully I will return home to see that it has gone smoothly!

Kim has come up with a really lovely colour combination for this week's Just Add Ink challenge:

I have once again had a play with Stampin' Up!'s Natural Composition Designer Series Paper.  It is a gorgeous, heavyweight, paper with clear-embossed designs on kraft-coloured backgrounds.  For this week's challenge, I cut a panel of the floral DSP from the pack, and used my Pretty in Pink marker to colour a few of the flowers.  Here's a close-up:

After colouring the petals with my marker, I added some white dots to the flower centres, using a gel pen.  Clear Itty Bitty Buttons were then adhered to the flower centres.  Here is the card in its entirety:

Stamps: Petite Pairs
Card: Chocolate Chip, Pretty In Pink, Whisper White
DSP: Natural Composition Designer Series Paper
Ink: Chocolate Chip and Crumb Cake stampin' pads, Pretty in Pink marker, Signo White gel pen
Other: Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch, Pool Party seam binding, 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" circle punches, Itty Bitty Buttons, glue dots, edge distressing tool, sponge dauber

The rest of the Just Add Ink Design Team have come up with some gorgeous cards using this colour combination - be sure to check them out.  We hope you'll be inspired to play along with us!

STAMPIN' UP!'S HOLIDAY CATALOGUE : BLOG HOP

Today I'm taking part in a mini (well, really tiny) blog hop with a few friends who are also Stampin' Up! demonstrators.  A couple of ladies have had to pull out, leaving us with only four participants!  We have all made something using products from the Holiday Catalogue, that is current until the end of January 2013.  We'd love you to visit all our blogs, and leave some 'comment love' so we know you've been!

You may have come here from Nikki Sadler's blog ... but if not, no problems.  At the end of each team member's blog post, we have linked to the next person in the loop.  There are only 4 of us all up, so it's pretty hard to lose your way!

I have made a couple of Christmas cards to share with you.  I've used LOADS of new products.

JAI #144 : JUST ADD MUSIC

Trish has set the challenge at Just Add Ink this week, to "just add music" to your papercraft project.  I love the variety of samples our Design Team have made, and am sure you will too - be sure to take a look.  We hope you'll play along with us!

When I set to making a card for this challenge, I knew I wanted to use my Natural Composition Specialty paper - there are two sheets in the pack, that have music clear-embossed on kraft card.  Perfect!!  I've used the paper on the main panel, as well as for the centre ornament, on which I stamped the sentiment in Staz-On ink.  In keeping with the music theme, I also used my Music Notes wheel and Cherry Cobbler ink on the base card.

Stamps: Ornament Keepsakes, More Merry Messages, Music Notes stampin' around wheel
Card: Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White
DSP: Natural Composition Specialty Designer Series Paper
Ink: Cherry Cobbler and Crumb Cake stampin' pads, Crumb Cake marker, Jet Black Staz-On inkpad

YET ANOTHER CRICKET-Y BIRTHDAY

Whilst I have learnt to be ruthless, in culling my Stampin' Up! supplies once they retire, there is one stamp set that is unlikely to leave my collection.  I am the only female in a cricket-mad household, and Stampin' Up!'s "Just Cricket" stamp set is well-loved and well-used!

Today is my first-born darling son's birthday, and - yet again - he gets a cricket-themed card.  Jack is well on the way to realising his dream of playing cricket at an elite level.  Recently he was selected to play in the Victorian under-17s cricket team, and we are incredibly proud of him and the hard work he puts in to reach his goals.

Here's the card I made, keeping it nice and simple, since it probably won't get more than a fleeting glance!

Stamps: Just Cricket (retired), Memorable Moments
Card: Basic Gray, Whisper White, Island Indigo, Basic Black
Ink: Basic Gray stampin' pad, Versamark inkpad, Island Indigo stampin' pad, Basic Black marker
Other: Labels Collection framelits, Festive paper-piercing pack, Stampin' Pierce Mat and paper-piercing tool, Basics Glimmer brad, Chevron embossing folder, Finishing Touches edgelits die, Basic Gray striped satin ribbon, stampin' dimensionals

There will be no special birthday dinner for Jack tonight, because he'll be ..... playing cricket!!  (It never ends!)

JAI # 143: STAMPIN' UP!'S BABY BUNDLE

This week at Just Add Ink, we have a colour challenge, set by Kim:

This one really had me thinking, and I had a few different ideas that didn't make the final cut!

I ended up making a baby card, in slightly non-traditional colours.  Even though the decorative strips at the top of the card look bowed in the photo, I can assure you they aren't!

Stamps: Baby Bundle
Card: Marina Mist, Sahara Sand, Early Espresso Core'dinations, Tangerine Tango, Watercolour paper
Ink: Timber Brown Staz-On inkpad, Sahara Sand and Marina Mist stampin' pads
Other: Blender pens, Houndstooth embossing folder, Labels Collection framelits, stamp-a-ma-jig, Marina Mist scalloped dots ribbon, Finishing Touches edgelits, Linen Thread, sponge daubers, Owl Builder punch (tiny heart), glue dots

If I hadn't used such sticky glue dots, given my time over I would've re-positioned the knot to sit beneath the Word Window - but, there was no moving it once it was stuck down, so this is how it will remain!

Make sure you check out the rest of the Design Team samples, to see the wonderful, diverse, ways of combining these colours.  The girls have some beautiful ideas.  We'd love for you to join us in this week's challenge.

JAI #142 : STAMPIN' UP!'S THE OPEN SEA

It has been a while since I've used The Open Sea, one of my favourite masculine stamp sets, so decided to use it for this week's Just Add Ink challenge.

Mae has come up with this great sketch for us to use as a starting point for a card/scrapbook page:

I have used for my card base the fabulous new Natural Composition Specialty paper from Stampin' Up! - can you see the embossed horizontal lines on the card front?  LOVE this heavyweight paper.

Stamps: The Open Sea, Bring on the Cake
Card: Very Vanilla
DSP: Natural Composition Specialty DSP, Comfort Cafe and Be of Good Cheer Designer Series Papers
Ink: Crumb Cake, Midnight Muse and Cherry Cobbler stampin' pads
Other: Corner rounder punch, 3/4" circle punch, sponge daubers, Linen Thread, Cherry Cobbler seam binding, Midnight Muse stitched satin ribbon, Antique brad, blender pen, glue dot

The rest of the Just Add Ink Design Team have come up with some amazing cards using this sketch - you'll love the variety.  Be sure to check them out here, and play along with us, if you can!  We'd love to see your card based on this sketch.

CHRISTMAS CLASS CARDS

Try saying that title three times quickly!!  I thought I'd share with you a couple of the cards we made in my Christmas card classes this month.

This first one was a bit time-consuming, but well worth it; I'm pretty sure everyone who made it was happy with it.  I love it!  Stampin' Up!'s Ornament Keepsakes bundle makes it very easy to make great Christmas cards.  This is the front view, when the card is closed .....

....... but when opened, you can see it's an easel card:

Here's a full shot of the inside of the card:

JAI #141 : A COLOUR CHALLENGE

This week at Just Add Ink, we have a gorgeous colour challenge for you.   Kathy came up with the suggestion of using these colours together:

I LOVE this colour combo, and have used it before - but not for quite some time.  You will be "wowed" by the rest of the Design Team's creations - and we look forward to seeing yours!

Here is my card, using Stampin' Up!'s Serene Silhouettes stamp set .... love.  The embossed panel below the flowers was created by rubbing my Crumb Cake inkpad directly onto the inside of the Lacy Brocade embossing folder.  I ran it through my Big Shot, with a piece of Wisteria Wonder Designer Series Paper inside.  To soften the brown tones of the Crumb Cake, I spritzed the panel with Frost White shimmer spray (shimmer paint mixed with Isocol).  Isn't it pretty??

You can see the shimmer a little better in this pic:

Stamps: Serene Silhouettes, Petite Pairs
Card: Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, Wisteria Wonder
DSP: Wisteria Wonder Patterns Designer Series Paper
Ink: Crumb Cake stampin' pad and marker, Wisteria Wonder stampin' pad and marker
Other: Boho Blossoms punch, Wisteria Wonder ruffled ribbon, Victoria Crochet Trim, Crumb Cake seam binding, Designer Printed brad, Basic Pearls, Large Oval punch, Scallop Oval punch, Scallop Trim border punch, sponge daubers, Lacy Brocade embossing folder, Frost White shimmer paint (mixed with Isocol to make shimmer spray), glue dots, Multipurpose Liquid Glue

Be sure to visit Just Add Ink to see what the rest of the Design Team have done with these gorgeous colours.  We'd love to have you play along with us!

ISLAND INDIGO CHRISTMAS OWL

I have a cute Christmas card to share with you today.

I challenged myself to use some of the paper from Stampin' Up!'s Festival of Prints DSP pad, that has Island Indigo and Cherry Cobbler patterns - a bit outside my comfort zone!

The owl stamp from Owl Occasions adorns an ornament cut with framelits; that, and the sentiment, is all the stamping on the card - I wanted the paper to 'do the talking'.

Here's a close-up of the paper, to show Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details dotted in the centres of the medallion shapes:

Stamps: Owl Occasions
Card: Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, Island Indigo
DSP:  Festival of Prints Designer Series Paper stack
Ink: Cherry Cobbler stampin' pad and marker, Island Indigo stampin' pad, Sahara Sand stampin' pad
Other: Holiday Ornaments framelits, Island Indigo ruffled ribbon, Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details, sponge dauber, Linen Thread, glue dots, Adorning Accents embossing folder, Adorning Accents edgelits die, stampin' dimensionals

JAI #140 : JUST ADD CHEVRONS

This week's challenge at Just Add Ink, thanks to our lovely Trish, is to use chevrons on our papercraft project.   I'm not entirely sure what the difference is between zig-zags and chevrons, but think chevrons might be a repetition of zig-zags?  Whatever - they're very "on trend" in the papercraft world right now!

In an effort to gradually build up my stash of Christmas cards, to avoid the perennial last-minute-rush in December (happens every year, despite my best efforts!), I have created another Christmas card.  You'll be seeing quite a few from hereon in - just warning you.

LOVING Stampin' Up!'s Midnight Muse, and it goes so well with Very Vanilla and Crumb Cake.  These colours give a bit of a vintagey look to my card, I think.  I have included a length of stamped cotton ribbon (it's on p.20 of the Holiday Catalogue, if you're looking for it); the ink colour is muted, but I like that.

Stamps: Ornament Keepsakes, Mixed Medley
Card: Crumb Cake, Midnight Muse, Very Vanilla
DSP: Comfort Cafe Designer Series Paper
Ink: Midnight Muse and Crumb Cake stampin' pads
Other: Holiday Ornaments framelits dies, Basic Pearls, Delicate Designs embossing folder, Large Scallop edgelits, Basic Pearls, Chevron embossing folder, 7/8" Cotton Ribbon, Midnight Muse stitched satin ribbon, sponge daubers, glue dots, 3/4" Circle punch

SU! ORNAMENT KEEPSAKES ON NATURAL COMPOSITION DSP

I have, for a few months, been wanting to recreate this stunning card by Yvette Ashe - it is one of my all-time favourites, using Stampin' Up!'s Ornament Keepsakes stamps.  Until now, though, I haven't had the Natural Composition Specialty Designer Series Paper.

Well .... I now have the paper, and I just had half an hour free, so I set to work.  I have added a couple of different touches (ribbon treatments, glimmer paper behind the buttons, and Early Espresso ink on the sentiment), but hope I've done Yvette's design justice.  I don't normally blog cards that I have CASEd, but this one has to be an exception because I just LOVE it!!!

Stamps: Ornament Keepsakes, More Merry Messages
Card: Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, Champagne Glimmer Paper
DSP: Natural Composition Specialty Designer Series Paper
Ink: Pool Party, Island Indigo, Crumb Cake and Early Espresso stampin' pads
Other: Holiday Ornaments framelits dies, Victoria crochet trim, Pool Party seam binding, Linen Thread, Very Vanilla 1/8" taffeta ribbon, Vintage faceted buttons, glue dots, Itty Bitty shapes 3/8" circle punch, sponge daubers

SC 062/12 : STAMPIN' UP!'S PATIO PARTY DSP

Friday has snuck up on me!  All week I've been meaning to make a card for this week's challenge at Sunny Challenges & Creations, but the days have disappeared.  I received a delivery today of some Patio Party Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up!, so have quickly whipped up a card following the Sunny Challenges & Creations sketch, and theme of "One for the Girls":

Here's my card, showcasing a couple of the gorgeous patterned papers:

Stamps: Bring On the Cake, Creative Elements, Papillon Potpourri
Card: Midnight Muse, Whisper White, Baja Breeze, Primrose Petals, Summer Starfruit
DSP: Patio Party Designer Series Paper
Ink: Baja Breeze, Midnight Muse and Primrose Petals stampin' pads
Other: Floral Frames framelits, 2 1/2" Circle punch, Finishing Touches edgelits die, Elegant Butterfly punch, sponge daubers, Summer Starfruit stitched satin ribbon, Vintage faceted button, glue dots

JAI #139 : JUST ADD ..... SOMETHING BRAND NEW

This week's challenge at Just Add Ink, set by Tina, is to use something NEW on your papercraft project.  In Australia and New Zealand, we've had our new Stampin' Up! catalogues for only a month - and, if you're anything like me, you've bought way more than you could possibly use in such a short time!

One of the stamp sets that was a "must have" for me, from our beautiful Holiday Catalogue, is Evergreen.  I've been looking at it lovingly since I bought it weeks ago, but it has only just seen ink for this challenge.  I've used a bit of creative licence when it comes to the colours of the Christmas tree; I picked out Early Espresso and Baja Breeze from the paper I used, from the fabulous Festival of Prints paper stack (also from the Holiday Catalogue).

So, here's the first of many cards I'll make with Evergreen.  The solid tree shape was stamped in Baja Breeze (on the gorgeous new Naturals White card); I then used Early Espresso embossing powder, to emboss the scribbly tree outline.  Love it!

Stamps: Evergreen, Mixed Medley
Card: Naturals White, Early Espresso, Baja Breeze
DSP: Festival of Prints Designer Series Paper Stack
Ink: Baja Breeze and Early Espresso stampin' pads, Versamark inkpad
Other: Early Espresso embossing powder, Stamp-a-ma-jig, 3/4" Circle punch, 1 1/4" Scallop Circle punch, Baja Breeze seam binding, Basic Pearls, Delicate Designs Embossing Folder, Large Scallop Edgelits die, sponge daubers, Festive Paper Piercing Pack, Labels Collection Framelits, glue dots, Stampin' Dimensionals

As always, there is a great variety of beautiful samples from the Design Team over at Just Add Ink - so please check out how everyone has used their new toys!  We'd love you to play along with us, too.

JAI #138: A COLOUR CHALLENGE

This week at Just Add Ink, Kim has set us a GREAT colour challenge:

Summer Starfruit is one of Stampin' Up!'s new In Colors, and it is my favourite, because it's significantly different to any other colours in the core range.

Somewhat predictably, I've made a masculine card.  I was inspired by last week's sketch challenge that we had, with divided panels across the front of a card.  My vertical panels were stamped with stamps from The Open Sea and Clockworks, in ink that matches the card.  Even though it doesn't show up clearly, the Whisper White mat has been embossed with Stampin' Up!'s Argyle embossing folder.  I did cheat a little with the colour combo, by knotting a piece of Basic Black taffeta ribbon around the white baker's twine; I think the colour looks closer to Basic Gray, so gave myself permission to use it!

Here's the end result of my play with these colours:

Stamps: Clockworks, The Open Sea, Bring on the Cake
Card: Basic Gray, Whisper White, Summer Starfruit
Ink: Basic Gray stampin' pad, Summer Starfruit stampin' pad and marker
Other: Labels Collection Framelits die, XL Oval punch, Basics Glimmer brad, sponge daubers, Argyle embossing folder, white baker's twine, Basic Black taffeta ribbon, glue dots

While I had these colours out, I had a little play, and came up with another card that I really love.  This one is for my nephew, who is a beautiful young man; very proud to be his aunty!

Stamps: Clockworks, Memorable Moments
Card: Basic Gray, Whisper White, Summer Starfruit
Ink: Basic Gray and Summer Starfruit stampin' pads
Other: Chevron embossing folder, Finishing Touches edgelits die, Labels Collection Framelits die

The rest of the Design Team have come up with some gorgeous creations with this colour combo - please take a look, and play along with us!
